Bourbon balls are a Kentucky favorite. Some wait all year for these in anticipation of the holiday season. Fortunately, you can indulge in this most delectable treat any time fo the year with this best-ever bourbon balls recipe!
Ingredients
-
1/4 cup Rabbit Hole Bourbon or 1/2 cup if "bolder" taste is preferred
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups confectioners sugar, divided
1 cup fine vanilla wafer crumbs
- 1 tbsp honey
- Pinch of kosher salt
1 cup finely chopped pecans, toasted or raw
Directions
In a large bowl or a food processor thoroughly combine the vanilla wafer crumbs, chopped pecans, 1 cup confectioners' sugar, and the cocoa powder.
In a separate bowl, blend the bourbon and corn syrup. (May also pour about 2.5 ounces more in a rocks glass with/without ice for personal use while baking).
Stir the bourbon and syrup mixture into the dry ingredients mixture. Stir and mix well with the help of a wooden or stainless steel spoon.
Cover the mixture with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 to 3 hours.
Once the mixture is chilled and ready to be shaped, sift about 1/2 to 1 cup of confectioners' sugar into a wide, shallow bowl or baking dish
Place a bowl of cold water next to your working area. Wet your hands with cold water and shape small bits of the dough into balls - about 1 inch in diameter. Roll them in the confectioners' sugar until well-coated.
Serve right away, or store in the refrigerator in tightly covered containers for up to 2 weeks.
Recipe Note
Alternate recipe: Instead of rolling in confectioner's sugar, consider melting some baking chocolate and dipping your bourbon balls using a fork or skewer. Top with a whole pecan and allow to harden on wax paper.
