The Vesper, sometimes also called a "Vesper Martini", was ordered by James Bond in the book Casino Royale. James Bond author Ian Fleming created the vesper and introduced it through the James Bond character. Published in 1953, the vesper cocktail has a rich history. The cocktail is named for the James Bond series double agent Vesper Lynd. Today, it is simply known as "refreshing" and strong enough to melt away a long day at the office.
