This is a whiskey cake recipe that stands out from the rest. You may have looked tirelessly for that "copycat" whiskey cake recipe, but this is the real deal. Pure unbridled chocolate with a destiny intertwined with whiskey. With hints of warm vanilla and rich dark coffee. Beware, make this once for a gathering of family and friends - and you'll always be the talk of the event. If you don't like the spotlight, then don't make this. If you prefer to be popular, and loved by all, then let's get started making the "Luxe Chocolate Whiskey Cake" recipe.
Ingredients
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
¾ teaspoon pink Himalayan sea salt
3 large free-range eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup mini semisweet Godiva chocolate chips
12 tablespoons unsalted grass-fed butter, cut into 1-inch pieces (more for pan)
¾ cup + 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ cups brewed strong coffee cooled – preferably Starbucks dark roast
¼ teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper
⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
-
½ - ¾ cup Boxergrail high-rye whiskey
1 cup white granulated cane sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
Powdered sugar, for serving (optional)
Directions
Heat oven to 325 degrees.
Butter a 10-inch springform type baking pan.
Dust with 2 tablespoons cocoa powder by adding to pan, then rotating pan around clockwise until lightly coated with powder.
In a medium saucepan over low heat, warm the coffee, Boxergrail, 12 tablespoons butter and remaining cocoa powder.
Whisk occasionally, until the butter is completely melted.
Whisk in brown sugar and cane sugar – stirring until completely dissolved.
Once dissolved, remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, pepper and cloves.
In another (medium) bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla.
Next, slowly whisk egg mixture into the chocolate mixture.
Now add the remaining dry ingredients and whisk everything to combine thoroughly.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Pour the whiskey cake batter into your prepared pan.
Place in preheated oven and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center is clean when pulled out. With most ovens, this is about 55 to 65 minutes.
Once done, place on a wire rack to cool, then unlatch/remove sides of your spring pan.
Recipe Note
Dust with powdered sugar before serving and enjoy with a dessert bourbon (basically any Rabbit Hole expression will do nicely).
